Category Adjustment Announcement – April,2025

In order to optimize the product structure and enhance the buyer experience, Alibaba plans to adjust the product categories on Alibaba.com starting from April 8, 2025, and the adjustment is expected to be completed by April 25, 2025. The details are as follows:

I. Reasons for Category Adjustment

  1. Improve product publishing rationality: The existing product publication category structure and classification method cannot fully meet the requirements of the industry, making it difficult for suppliers to find suitable categories when publishing products.
  2. Enhance Buyer Procurement Efficiency: A reasonable category structure and classification method can improve the accuracy of buyer search matching, enabling buyers to find the products they want to purchase more efficiently and accurately.

II. Category Adjustment Schedule and Scope

Schedule:

  1. : New categories/some categories paths changings/renamed categories and attributes start to be published and go live.
  2. : Products migration. New leaf categories can be used to publish products. Products migration will be carried out on the same day. Products of merchants under the old categories will be migrated to the new leaf categories by the system according to the product title keywords or attributes.
  3. : Old categories are blocked. Abandoned categories are blocked on the merchant side. The adjustment will be completed after the display categories are refreshed. (The specific time may deviate by a few days before or after due to system reasons. Please refer to the actual adjustment time.)

The adjustment covers 34 industries, detailed as bellow:
